Biography

MAWULOM DEKU, born in 19th march 1988 in accra - Ghana, to retired GROUP CAPTAIN ZAGLA DEKU of the GHANA AIRFORCE and HENRIETTA DEKU a Trader. He performs under the name ELOM, which is the short for mawulom, described by EL PAIS in march 2019 as a musician who “will turn into something big” is a Ghanaian indie singer-Songwriter and guitarist from aflao in the Volta region of Ghana, influenced by ewe folk music and indie folk, he sings in both English and Ewe.

His passionate songwriting and performances sweeps his listeners into a space of freedom, pain and pleasure.

"He first taught himself how to play the guitar at the age of 14 when he picked up a guitar at his father’s friend’s house. He started performing when he was in high school (St. JOHN’S SCHOOL sekondi), He also performed in local bars in Takoradi."

After obtaining his HIGHER NATIONAL  DIPLOMA in Electrical/Electronic Engineering at HO POLYTECHNIC, he moved to Accra in 2012 to further his education, he dropped out of WISCONSIN INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY whiles studying MANAGEMENT and COMPUTER STUDIES to concentrate on his music but went on to graduate at ACCRA INSTITUTE of TECHNOLOGY with a bachelor degree in ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING in 2016.

"The REPUBLIC BAR AND GRILL, ASA BAAKO, PIANO BAR, ALLIANCE FRANCAISE INSTITUTE accra, are some of the popular music venues in Ghana he has perfomed."

 He was selected to perform among eleven other bands for the Spain Ghana VIS A VIS concert held in accra, Ghana in march 2019. He has a year old daughter with his partner. He has two younger sisters and an older brother.
